Devastation as dad, 30, dies 24 hours after his birthday in third family tragedy
Jake Evans, a father of two from Cwmbran, died of multi-organ failure and pneumonia at The Grange Hospital on July 27, 2026, one day after his 30th birthday. His sister Becky Hunt said he developed severe alcohol dependency after both parents died within six months, at one point drinking 20 cans of lager a day and suffering serious liver damage and reduced mobility. Jake achieved 10 months of sobriety with support from alcohol services, but relapsed after a severe assault in December 2025. His family is raising money for his funeral and children while highlighting the potentially fatal consequences of grief, trauma, alcohol addiction and relapse.
