A woman was allegedly tricked into handing over £500 withdrawn from a Halifax ATM on Parliament Street in York. North Yorkshire Police said a man distracted her by claiming the machine had failed to dispense his money, then persuaded her that the cash withdrawn from her account belonged to him. Police are appealing for information to identify the man shown in CCTV footage.

A man in his 40s was charged with dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, failing to provide an evidential specimen and driving without insurance after a high-speed pursuit on the A64 near York. Police said the pursuit began after reports of suspected drink-driving at a Scarborough caravan park. The driver allegedly travelled on the wrong side of the road and exceeded the speed limit; despite a stinger deflating both front tyres, he continued for eight miles before the vehicle collided with a verge at Hopgrove Roundabout.

North Yorkshire Police have launched an urgent search for 27-year-old Jessica Ashworth, who was last seen in York’s Acomb area on July 25. Police provided her physical description, noted links to Acomb and Huntington, and urged anyone who sees her to call 999 or submit information through the force’s website or by calling 101, quoting reference 12260151480.

A motorcyclist was taken to hospital with serious injuries after a collision involving a silver Honda motorcycle and a black Ford Fiesta on Flaxley Road in Selby. North Yorkshire Police closed the road for several hours while investigating and recovering the vehicles, and appealed for witnesses, dashcam footage and information about the vehicles before the crash.

David Teasdale, 56, was found dead at his home on Gatesgarth Close in Scarborough on August 3. North Yorkshire Police is assisting the Coroner’s Office in locating his next of kin, and officers said there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.

The café inside Waterstones on Coney Street in York has extended its opening hours to 9am–5:30pm Monday to Saturday and 10:30am–4pm on Sunday. The bookshop’s opening hours remain unchanged, while the company says the change will give customers more time to meet, relax and enjoy refreshments.
