Mummified remains found in bin bags in Suffolk river ruled unlawful killing
An inquest concluded that an unidentified man whose mummified and dismembered remains were found in weighted bags in the River Stour in Suffolk was unlawfully killed. Radiocarbon dating suggested he was in his late 60s or 70s and died between 2008 and 2012. Evidence indicated attempts to conceal his identity, including removal of hands and extensive skull damage. Police confirmed that remains found at two sites belonged to the same person and noted the disposal materials suggested the body may have been stored for an extended period. Expert analysis indicated multiple sharp‑force blows to the skull, though the exact cause of death remains unascertained, and the man’s identity is still unknown.
