Papua: Hundreds of students poisoned by MBG – 'It’s like feeding animals in a cage'
Hundreds of students, along with teachers and other adults, were hospitalized in Jayapura, Papua, after eating meals distributed through Indonesia’s Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program on 4–5 August 2026. Victims reported dizziness, diarrhea, abdominal pain and nausea, while limited hospital capacity forced authorities to use emergency tents and distribute patients among several facilities. The kitchen operator, Yayasan Kasih Iman Samuel Papua, apologized and pledged to cover treatment costs. Police are investigating and testing food samples, while National Nutrition Agency head Sudaryono attributed the incident to alleged violations of cooking and delivery procedures. Public-health expert Windhu Pramono criticized the centralized kitchens and called for stronger prevention and localized food preparation, as the incident renewed concerns about the wider safety record and rapid expansion of MBG in Papua.

Persecution of trans women in Bogor – What really happened?
Trans women in Bogor report escalating violence involving physical attacks, humiliation, and intimidation by growing groups of perpetrators. Advocates link the rise in incidents to anti-LGBTQ narratives amplified by media and political statements, while local authorities offer limited or delayed responses. Existing local regulations labeling LGBTQ identities as deviant contribute to vulnerability, and similar threats are emerging in other regions such as Padang and across West Java. Victims express fear and trauma, and activists warn that trans women engaged in sex work face the highest risks due to economic precarity and lack of protection.
