Ipswich paramedic’s mother says mental health trust did not care
Rebecca McLellan’s mother, Natalie, says the Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust failed her daughter by leaving her without a care coordinator during a period of severe distress before her suicide at age 24. An inquest heard that McLellan was threatened with police intervention when she sought help at the trust’s offices. Coroner Daniel Sharpstone warned the trust about staff shortages and the lack of adequate systems for covering prolonged absences and ensuring continuity of care. The trust expressed regret and said it had strengthened absence-management, caseload oversight and continuity-of-care procedures, but McLellan’s family and a local campaign say longstanding problems remain unresolved.
