Champions League: Martin O'Neill says Celtic should aim to win the competition as Arne Engels exit 'disappointment' discussed
Celtic manager Martin O'Neill says the club should aspire to win the Champions League, following the standard set by the 1967 European Cup-winning Lisbon Lions, despite the financial gap separating Scottish clubs from Europe’s elite. Celtic face Austrian champions LASK in the qualifying play-off after last season’s defeat by Kairat Almaty. Qualification could generate roughly £40 million through prize money, UEFA distributions and ticket sales. O'Neill believes Celtic’s summer recruitment has strengthened the squad, but says Arne Engels’ £22 million move to West Ham United is disappointing because the midfielder’s running power is difficult to replace before the qualifiers.
