Man charged with murder after person shot dead at Traveller site
Shane Porter, 35, has been charged with murdering 36-year-old Jimmy Ward, who was fatally shot at a Traveller site in Calcutt near Cricklade, Wiltshire, on August 2. Porter also faces a charge of possessing a shotgun without a certificate. Eddie Porter and Tammy Brown have been charged with assisting an offender and the same firearms offence. All three have been remanded in custody and are due to appear at magistrates’ court by video link, while two other men arrested in connection with the case were released on bail. Wiltshire Police said the investigation and increased policing presence at the site would continue.

Man and woman arrested after 'highly sophisticated' explosive found in car near border
Irish police intercepted a vehicle near Carrickmacross, County Monaghan, containing what Garda sources described as a highly sophisticated device with suspected military-grade explosives. The female driver, in her 20s, and a male suspect, in his 40s, were arrested. Garda Commissioner Justin Kelly said the seizure was extremely significant and linked the threat to a small minority of radicalised dissident republicans opposed to the Good Friday Agreement. Gardaí, the Irish Defence Forces’ bomb-disposal team, the PSNI and UK intelligence services are cooperating on the investigation.
