He thought it was an insect bite—but now doctors have given him months to live
Chris Capstick, 41, initially believed a changing lump on his back was an insect bite or harmless cyst after his wedding in Greece. After repeated GP visits, it was removed in February 2023 and diagnosed as stage-four melanoma. Following lymph-node removal and 13 months of immunotherapy, he was briefly cancer-free, but multiple tumours later appeared in his brain and elsewhere. Doctors gave him 10 to 12 months to live, although five of six brain tumours have since disappeared and he currently has no fixed prognosis. His daughter Isabella created the book Daddy's Little Monsters to help children understand serious illness, with fundraising supporting its distribution to cancer centres and hospices.

Man stabbed ex-wife 12 times as she pushed a pram down the street
Osarenkhoe Atutie was sentenced to nine years, including seven years and six months in custody, after admitting the attempted murder of his estranged wife, Victory, in Edinburgh. He travelled from London, confronted her while she was pushing their daughter in a pram, and stabbed her 12 times, causing a collapsed lung, bleeding in the chest and permanent scarring. Three passers-by disarmed and restrained him, likely saving her life. The court cited his planning, the presence of the couple’s child and his anger over contact with his daughter as aggravating factors, while also noting his mental-health difficulties. An indefinite non-harassment order prohibits him from contacting or approaching his wife.
