Historic posters, photographs, registers and other artefacts dating from the 1880s were largely spared despite a major fire that severely damaged Leicester’s 164-year-old St Andrew’s Church on 28 July 2026. The church archive will be catalogued and preserved by the Records Office for Leicester and Leicestershire, while Leicestershire Museums Service is conserving a Victorian embroidered altar frontal in a specialist freezer. The church remains unusable, repair costs have not yet been assessed, and an online fundraiser has been launched as the fire has also eliminated income from church rentals.
