Final UK summer heatwave on its way as exhausted Brits could boil between these dates
The Met Office says above-average temperatures may persist across the UK from late August into early September, with the strongest potential for a late-season hot spell or heatwave in southern and eastern areas. Northern and north-western regions are more likely to experience unsettled conditions. Forecasters stress that the outlook is uncertain and does not guarantee a heatwave, particularly because long-range forecasts lack local precision. The forecast follows an exceptionally hot 2026, during which multiple heatwaves and temperature records were reported; researchers estimated that about 2,700 excess deaths occurred in England and Wales during earlier May and June heat events.

UK at Risk of New Sixth Summer Heatwave as Met Office Issues Latest Forecast
The Met Office says UK temperatures are likely to remain above average from August 29 to September 12, with a possibility of late-season hot spells or heatwaves, particularly in southern and eastern areas. Forecast confidence is limited, and the agency stresses that the outlook does not guarantee a heatwave. Drier, more settled conditions are slightly more likely in the south and east, while northern and north-western regions may experience more unsettled weather. The forecast follows an exceptionally warm 2026, including three widespread heatwaves, numerous broken climate records, England and Wales's hottest spring on record, and England's warmest June.

BA flight chaos as pilots suffer mid-air food poisoning after India stop off
Three British Airways pilots on a flight from Hyderabad to London became ill with suspected food poisoning mid‑flight, leaving one incapacitated and requiring oxygen. The remaining two pilots, despite also feeling unwell, safely landed the Boeing 777 at Heathrow before all three sought medical care. The pilots had eaten at the same hotel in Hyderabad, prompting an internal investigation and a review of crew accommodation. Previous hygiene complaints from BALPA heightened concerns about crew welfare and preventing simultaneous pilot illness.
