Royal Mail issues reminder to anyone writing addresses by hand
Royal Mail has reminded customers that handwritten addresses must be clear, legible and written in ink that contrasts with the envelope or parcel. Addresses should appear on the lower-left front, be left-aligned, avoid punctuation, include a postcode where possible, and use capital letters for the town and postcode. For international mail, the destination country should be on the final line; white labels and black ink are recommended for dark or patterned envelopes.

UK heatwave forecast for September 2026 as Met Office warns of late-season hot spells
The Met Office forecasts that UK temperatures are more likely to remain above average from late August into early September 2026, with the greatest chance of dry, settled conditions and possible late-season hot spells in southern and eastern areas. Northern and north-western regions may see more unsettled weather. Forecasters stress that weak signals and the limitations of long-range predictions mean the outlook does not guarantee a heatwave. The forecast follows an exceptionally warm 2026, including England’s hottest June on record and several widespread heatwaves.
