BBC finds new damage caused by Iran to US bases and key sites in the Gulf region
BBC Verify found satellite and video evidence of fresh damage at at least nine US-linked military bases and critical civilian facilities in Jordan, Bahrain, Iraq and Kuwait after the conflict escalated on 12 July 2026. Damage was identified at the Muwaffaq Salti and Tower 22 sites in Jordan, Sheikh Isa Air Base in Bahrain, Erbil air base in Iraq and Kuwait's Mina Abdullah oil refinery, among other locations. The findings indicate that Iran retained the ability to strike US-linked targets despite Donald Trump's earlier claim that Tehran's military capability had been destroyed. The report also identifies misleading social-media videos, including recycled or fabricated footage, and notes the continuing risks to regional security and energy supplies.
