Gignouxphotos is a documentary photography and web documentary company focussing on socio-political and environmental issues around the world. Our commitment is to recording the effects of occupation and displacement on communities around the world. Long-term photographic projects have taken us to the Middle-East, North Africa, Canada, and beyond. Along the way, we’ve worked with NGOs such as Oxfam, CARE, and the British Council. More recently, Gignouxphotos has documented the environmental and social legacy of the industrial exploitation of natural resources in North America and post-Soviet Russia. We’ve covered environmental controversies, such as oil sands extraction in Alberta, Canada and mountaintop removal mining in Appalachia. Our team brings together a group of highly skilled professionals – making fine art photography, photographer’s books and zines, multimedia web documentaries and touring photography exhibitions. Portföy
Appalachia is the poorest region of the United States, earning the region the nickname," America's Colony," while the giant coal companies have earned the nickname, "King Coal."
King Coal has extracted the coal by using some of the most ruthless methods in what has been called, "Capitalism's Dark Side." Today, the coal companies have found an even better way to extract the coal, just blow up the mountains without a care for reclamation.
This documentary describes the socio economic costs of Mountain top removal.
