Lincoln university researcher warns over online peptide sales
University of Lincoln criminology researcher Luke Turnock is urging the UK government to tighten restrictions on unapproved peptides sold online under “research use only” or “not for human consumption” labels. He warns that wider use, including by influencers and people seeking appearance or performance enhancement, could expose users to poorly studied compounds and possible long-term risks such as cancer or organ damage. The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency says it assesses products case by case, can act when they are classified as unauthorised medicines, and will disregard research-use claims when they appear intended to evade medicines regulations.
