Chatelaine of One of Scotland’s Most Beautiful Houses
Deirdre Rosebery, the Dowager Countess of Rosebery, is remembered for spending seven decades preserving and enhancing Dalmeny House and its significant collections, including artworks, French furniture, Burns memorabilia and rare historical objects. She also played an influential role in Scottish charitable and cultural life, supporting Girlguiding Scotland, Scottish War Blinded and St Columba’s Hospice Care, while serving as a trustee of major Scottish museums and galleries. Born Allison Mary Deirdre Reid, she met Neil Primrose at the 1954 Edinburgh Fringe, married him the following year and later helped manage the Dalmeny estate after he inherited the Rosebery titles and properties. She is survived by their son Harry and four daughters.
