Jayne Economos says her father’s condition deteriorated during treatment at Wrexham Maelor Hospital after staff allegedly failed to communicate that he had broken ribs, administered sedatives and antipsychotics, and struggled to manage dementia-related distress in an overcrowded ward. She blames paper-based records, inadequate staffing and poor infrastructure while praising staff for working under difficult conditions. Her father is now receiving care at Bryn Hesket Unit in Colwyn Bay, where she says he is beginning to improve, though he has lost much of his independence. Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board medical director Clara Day apologised and said the patient’s care and communication with the family would be reviewed.
