TMR vs Hall Effect: Which Magnetic Tech Is Best for Your Gaming Keyboards and Controllers? It's Not Just About Better Accuracy and Faster Response Times
Hall Effect and TMR sensors both replace traditional contact-based components in gaming keyboards and controllers, improving durability and enabling features such as adjustable actuation and rapid trigger. TMR offers higher sensitivity, lower noise, smaller magnets, and substantially lower power consumption than Hall Effect, but its components remain more expensive and its firmware and manufacturing ecosystem are less mature. For most gamers, especially those using controllers with built-in dead zones or keyboards sampled at high polling rates, the practical advantage of TMR may be limited. Hall Effect therefore remains the more established and cost-effective choice, while falling production costs are likely to drive wider TMR adoption.
