About Alex
Alex Garcia is a photojournalist and videographer based in Chicago with over 20 years of experience that includes staff positions at the Chicago Tribune, the Los Angeles Times, the Long Beach Press-Telegram and the Palm Beach Post. HarperCollins calls him, "One of the World's Leading Photojournalists".

He has covered major news events, from political conventions to natural disasters, both here and abroad. He has photographed a diversity of people in many contexts - from CEO executives to intimate moments of everyday people, scaling up the production quality of the shoot depending on the needs of clients and the story.

At the Chicago Tribune, he received a 1st Place award from the World Press Photo contest in Amsterdam, the world's most prestigious photojournalism contest. He also shares a Pulitzer Prize with the staff for coverage of gridlock at O'Hare Airport.

Among his book credits, Garcia was selected to participate in the largest photo project in publishing history, "America 24/7”. He was also selected for the book projects "A Day in the Life of the U.S. Armed Forces", "America At Home” and most recently, “The Human Face of Big Data”.

At the Chicago Tribune, Garcia influenced a monthly audience of tens of thousands via the Assignment Chicago photo blog and a weekly column published on the blog about topics relating to photography and photojournalism. It was one of the few individual photo blogs on the website of a major news organization. The posts form the basis of his book "Depth of Field: Tips on Photojournalism and Creativity" by Agate Digital.

He has special expertise in Cuba, having lived and worked in the country for over a year in the past 20 years. He worked as a correspondent there for the Tribune company when the company was granted permission to open the first newspaper bureau in the country in 40 years.

He currently serves on the board of directors of the National Press Photographers Association
