Scientists at Innovation Agritech Group in Bracknell are growing lettuce and other crops indoors on vertical aeroponic panels, using artificial lighting, automated irrigation and AI-controlled growing conditions. The system eliminates the need for sunlight and soil and is claimed to use 98% less water than traditional farming, an advantage as Berkshire faces drought conditions. Supporters say controlled environments can protect yields from adverse weather and allow year-round production, while a Defra-commissioned report raised concerns about the limited range of crops and high electricity demand. IAG argues that advances in LED lighting and environmental controls are improving the technology's efficiency and expanding its potential to include soft fruits and protein crops.

A mentoring programme at Brighton Hill Community School has expanded rapidly after strong community engagement, connecting boys in Years 9 and 10 with volunteer mentors to build confidence and life skills. Inspired partly by discussions on challenges facing young men, the scheme now has more than 100 mentors and is being adopted by dozens of schools nationwide. Participants report gaining motivation, support and improved communication, while school leaders emphasise the growing pressures facing young people and the importance of trusted relationships.
