Aston Villa bid to avoid Newcastle transfer revenge by sealing João Palhinha deal
Aston Villa are negotiating with Bayern Munich to sign João Palhinha as cover for Amadou Onana, who is expected to miss much of the 2026–27 season with an ACL injury. Bayern are prepared to let the 31-year-old Portugal midfielder leave after his loan spell at Tottenham, but Newcastle United are also considering him following Bruno Guimaraes’s £75 million move to Arsenal. Villa can offer Champions League football, while Newcastle may have greater financial flexibility, raising the prospect of another transfer battle between the clubs after Villa secured Johan Manzambi from Newcastle’s grasp earlier in the summer.
