Teenagers died in house fire after e-bike battery 'exploded'
Coby Keogh, 13, and Joey Gregory, 19, died after suffering hypoxic brain injuries in a house fire on Redcar Road in Blackpool, which investigators believe may have started when an e-bike battery exploded. At separate opening hearings, Blackpool Senior Coroner Alan Wilson raised concerns about modified e-bikes, particularly batteries altered to remove speed restrictions, and warned that storing them inside homes may pose a significant fire risk. The deaths may be investigated jointly and final inquests are expected in November or December 2026. The case is being compared with a 2024 Blackpool-area fire that killed Josh Pearson and Danielle Bamber and was also attributed to an electrical fault in e-bike batteries. Joey's organs were donated to recipients following his death.

Preston Davey inquest set to resume as new details emerge after toddler's murder
A coroner indicated that the inquest into the death of murdered toddler Preston Davey is likely to resume once an ongoing safeguarding review by Oldham Council concludes in early 2027. The hearing may be designated an Article 2 inquest due to possible failures in the adoption process and missed opportunities to protect the child, who died in 2023 after abuse by adoptive parents Jamie Varley and John McGowan-Fazakerley. Multiple councils, the hospital, and family representatives attended the pre‑inquest review, where the coroner outlined expected timelines and confirmed no public inquiry had been announced. Further procedural hearings are planned for later in the year.
