Firefighters responded to a large blaze at an industrial building on Chew Valley Road in Greenfield, Saddleworth, after being called shortly before 7:45am on August 16. Ten fire engines and specialist appliances attended, while residents were told to keep doors and windows closed and avoid the area because of heavy smoke. Around 45 homes were reportedly evacuated as a precaution and specialist environmental units arrived amid concerns about toxic fumes. The nearby Greenfield Tesco store temporarily closed but reopened later that day. The cause of the fire remained unknown, and the live coverage ended while crews continued tackling the blaze.
