Eight tourists stopped for ice cream at beauty spot — it cost them nearly £1,000
Eight Devon motorcyclists received two £60 penalties each after stopping at Llyn Tegid in Bala to buy ice creams, unaware that new £1 motorcycle parking charges and ANPR enforcement had begun. The scheme, introduced by Eryri National Park Authority to address overnight camping, litter, congestion and dangerous parking, has also angered local residents, who say limited free-parking windows do not provide meaningful access to their lake. A petition calling for free 24-hour access quickly gathered more than 500 signatures. The authority says the pilot will run through the October half-term and that ANPR data, resident feedback and community views will inform any future changes.
