Inside the sustainable fashion network spreading across Africa

01 Apr 2023  |  www.fairplanet.org
Nkwati Elsa-Rita, inspired by Catherine Natang, has become a devoted advocate of sustainable fashion in Cameroon. Catherine Natang, CEO of Catharina Natang, focuses on using eco-friendly fabrics, reducing fashion waste, and redesigning old clothes. Cameroon faces significant plastic pollution challenges, with fashion waste contributing to environmental degradation. Natang has mobilized 85 designers across Africa to join her sustainable fashion network, offering training and promoting eco-friendly practices. Despite challenges, including high costs and convincing other designers, Natang's initiatives are gaining traction. She aims to establish a fabric recycling plant and has developed an app, Fabric Recogniser, to identify plastic content in fabrics. Her efforts have been recognized with an award for promoting behavior change in the fight against plastics.

The untold story behind the summary execution of some youths in Buea, Southwest region of Cameroon, by Cameroon's elite forces. The story contains eye witness accounts, and step by step account of what happened. It unravels and paints a picture of similar cases where youths are killed in the ongoing war in the English regions of Cameroon, and are tagged as separatists fighters, even though in most cases, they are not. The detailed story, is just one in many cases that go unreported or uninvestigated. It helps give an idea of the many massacres going on in several communities in the troubled regions of Cameroon.
