British Tourists Holidaying in Turkey Must Carry Their Passport at All Times or Risk a £100 Fine
British visitors to Turkey are advised to carry their original passport or residence permit at all times because police may conduct identity checks in tourist areas, transport hubs, checkpoints and during journeys. Those unable to provide identification could face delays, a return to their accommodation, detention for verification or fines of roughly £25 to £100. Children are not exempt. Travellers are also reminded that passports should be valid for at least 150 days on arrival and that British citizens can visit Turkey visa-free for up to 90 days within any 180-day period.
