5 LNG Megaprojects Poised to Power the Next Gas Boom
Five major LNG projects in Qatar, Alaska, Argentina and the United States are positioned to expand global export capacity as demand for flexible gas supplies and energy security grows. QatarEnergy’s North Field West expansion could add 16 million tonnes per year, while Alaska LNG is seeking additional offtake commitments before its final investment decision. Argentina’s projects aim to monetize Vaca Muerta shale gas through floating and larger land-and-sea export facilities. In Texas, NextDecade’s Rio Grande LNG and Sempra Infrastructure’s Port Arthur LNG are progressing toward substantial capacity additions, with production from initial trains expected from 2027 and further expansions extending into the early 2030s. The projects could help offset LNG disruptions caused by conflict and Strait of Hormuz shipping risks, although construction, financing, contracting and geopolitical challenges remain significant.

Energy Affordability Trumps Climate in US Midterm Races
Rising gasoline and electricity prices are pushing energy affordability ahead of climate policy in U.S. midterm campaigns. Candidates from both parties are adopting more pragmatic positions, including support for natural gas, nuclear power, and broader all-of-the-above energy strategies. Data centers have become a central political target because of their large electricity and water demands, prompting proposals for tighter regulation, new taxes, transparency rules, renewable-power requirements, and construction moratoriums. Polling and recent state election results suggest that voter concern over household energy costs and data-center expansion could significantly influence the 2026 races.

Ukraine’s Attack on Iranian Cargo Ship Links Two Wars
Ukraine says it struck an Iranian commercial vessel in the Caspian Sea because it was carrying drone and missile components to Russia, while Iran says the attack killed a sailor and violated international law. The incident highlights the growing military relationship between Tehran and Moscow and extends Ukraine’s campaign against Russian-linked maritime supply networks. Analysts say Iran’s retaliation options against Ukraine are limited and would more likely involve cyberattacks, intelligence operations or indirect support for Russia. The strike may also signal closer strategic alignment between Kyiv and Washington as the United States intensifies pressure on Iran, although the Trump administration has sought to keep the two wars politically separate.
