Fire Authority votes on the future of Dorset fire stations
A pivotal meeting of the Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Authority will determine whether eight threatened fire stations remain open under a revised rescue plan. Originally proposed for closure to address a growing budget shortfall, the stations gained strong community and political support, prompting the chief fire officer to recommend retaining all sites within a broader modernisation programme. The proposal depends on government approval for greater council tax precept flexibility in 2027, which could provide sufficient income to stabilise finances. If conditions are not met, closure options may be reconsidered in 2027.
