A taste test of blueberries from Aldi, Lidl, Sainsbury’s, M&S, Tesco and Waitrose found Lidl’s £1.29 punnet to be the overall winner, scoring 10/10 for its firm, juicy and flavourful berries. M&S ranked second with 9.5/10 for consistently large, high-quality fruit, while Tesco scored 8/10 and Waitrose 7/10. Sainsbury’s received 5/10 for bland, mushy berries, and Aldi came last with 3/10 despite its comparatively good shelf life.

Chef Carina of Recipes by Carina recommends a three-ingredient scone recipe using self-raising flour, double cream and carbonated lemonade such as Sprite or 7UP. The carbonation helps the scones rise and become light and fluffy, while sparkling water with sugar, Greek yoghurt or buttermilk can be used as alternatives. The dough is mixed gently, cut into portions and baked at 220°C for 20–25 minutes before serving.
