Letter from Chair of the ASC to Secretary of State for Business, Innovation, Science and Trade
The Animals in Science Committee has advised the Secretary of State to establish an Alternative Methods Expert Committee as a strategic, system-level body focused on advising, convening, prioritising and horizon scanning. Its twelve recommendations address the committee’s remit, governance, membership, expertise, resources and partnerships, while also seeking stronger coordination in implementing the government’s strategy to replace animals in science. The committee identifies fragmentation, unclear validation processes and the lack of a framework for determining when alternative methods are ready for wider adoption as major barriers to progress.
