The Hills were alive with a NSW Liberal factional war – now the corruption watchdog is sniffing around
Two major New South Wales corruption matters are converging on the Liberal party, creating intense scrutiny of factional powerbrokers, illicit donations and development-related influence. ICAC is examining whether a group of politically connected operatives, including associates of the Perrottet family, used illegal donations and branch stacking to control Hills Shire Council and influence development approvals linked to fugitive developer Jean Nassif. A separate criminal case against former minister John Sidoti stems from earlier ICAC findings that he lobbied councillors over land in which his family held interests. The investigations highlight vulnerabilities in local government decision‑making, deep factional divides within the Liberals, and potential failures of oversight that may shape the party’s future for years.
