The Most Polluted Spots in Birmingham Revealed, with the A38M and M6 'Choking Residents'
A Birmingham Live data investigation finds that Aston Park, Gravelly Hill, Brookvale and South Erdington have pollution levels more than three times the World Health Organization’s recommended limits, with the first three located near major motorways and junctions. Aston Park records roughly 17 micrograms of PM2.5 and more than 22 micrograms of nitrogen dioxide per cubic metre annually. Overall, 99% of Birmingham and 90% of the Black Country fail WHO guidelines, while poorer communities tend to face the worst air quality. Asthma + Lung UK says UK standards are outdated and urges a new Clean Air Act, while the government and Birmingham City Council point to measures including the Clean Air Zone, air-quality monitors and cleaner transport initiatives.
