Why has Tupac Shakur's murder still not been solved?
Tupac Shakur was killed in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas on 7 September 1996, but the case remained unresolved for decades amid witness silence, gang-related deaths, limited physical evidence and alleged investigative failures. The 2023 arrest of former gang leader Duane “Keffe D” Davis followed his public statements and memoir describing his presence in the vehicle and involvement in supplying the weapon, although he now disputes the book’s accuracy and denies being in Las Vegas. Prosecutors allege Davis ordered the killing in retaliation for an earlier assault on his nephew and acted to support gang activity. The trial may illuminate the Bloods–Crips conflict and the East Coast–West Coast rap rivalry, but the available evidence may not establish who fired the shots. Potential witnesses include Suge Knight and other figures connected to the case.
