Police have launched a murder investigation into the death of former Conservative MP Ann Widdecombe after she was found dead at her Devon home, with a 26‑year‑old man arrested on suspicion of murder. Widdecombe had previously spoken about receiving death threats, which she dismissed, and discussed her belief that MPs should remain accessible to constituents. She referred to the murders of Airey Neave and David Amess while stressing that threats should not distance MPs from the public. CCTV at her home is expected to be reviewed as part of the investigation.
