Residents in Whitehawk, Manor Farm and Bristol Estates, organized through the DueEast neighbourhood governance pilot, are opposing parking charges on the Broadway. They want the restrictions changed to provide one-hour free parking with return limits, arguing that pay-and-display parking has reduced footfall and harmed local shops. Supported by Serendipity Enterprise Solutions and Brighton and Hove City Council’s pilot scheme, the initiative aims to give residents and service providers greater influence over local services, spending and neighbourhood regeneration.

Preston Park Tavern in Brighton has been named the UK's most sustainable pub at the Sustainable Restaurant Association awards in London. Owners Andrew and Helen Coggings were recognized for sourcing food locally, using ethically sourced meat, recycling extensively, sharing tips, using biodegradable cleaning products, and producing its own filtered still and sparkling water. The pub is the only venue in Brighton with the SRA's three-star rating.

St Mary’s Church in Preston Park is celebrating the centenary of its opening with a service attended by past and present priests and led by Bishop Kieran Conry. The church began as the chapel of Lourdes Convent School, opened in 1912 through the vision of Father Frederick Hopper, and grew from 20 worshippers to about 400 regular parishioners. Its development included the completion of building work in 1979 and the opening of the Cassidy Centre in 2007, funded by benefactor Cyril Cassidy. The celebrations will take place at 3pm on Sunday, November 4.

Residents and community organizations in East Brighton met to address illegal motorcyclists riding on pavements and football pitches around the Crew Club in Whitehawk. The activity is considered a serious public-safety threat, particularly because the area is poorly lit, and has damaged one of East Brighton Community Football Club's two pitches. A temporary plan to place large logs around the pitch was proposed, while permanent fencing around Whitehawk Hill was being considered as a longer-term solution. The problem had reportedly affected Whitehawk for more than 30 years.

Preston Manor in Brighton is attracting more visitors through its Hidden House tour, which opens previously inaccessible servants’ rooms and presents the manor through the perspective of former servants. Co-creators Sarah Tobias and Paula Wrightson credit word-of-mouth recommendations and the tour’s conversational style for increasing attendance. Special events, including supernatural and garden tours, are also drawing new and returning visitors, with organizers hoping to establish the Hidden Garden tour permanently if funding is secured.

A fundraising event in Whitehawk collected £64.51 in pennies for a new noticeboard at St Cuthman's Church, reviving a method used to help fund the church's construction in 1937. Whitehawk Primary School raised a further £25.67 through a penny trail, bringing the campaign to roughly a quarter of its £350 target. Organiser Janet Nowak planned another collection in north Whitehawk.

A planning application to convert the former Caffyns car showroom on Preston Road into a Sainsbury’s store was rejected by the planning committee. The committee cited safety risks for motorists and pedestrians caused by delivery vehicles accessing the loading bay near bus and cycle lanes, along with increased traffic, parking pressure and harm to the character of the Preston Park Conservation Area. The local Preston Village ‘No to Sainsbury’s’ Action Group had campaigned against the proposal since March.

More than 250 people joined a two-mile Walk4Life event from Hove Lawns to Madeira Drive in Brighton and Hove. Organised with Change4Life and Healthwalks, the event promoted walking as a free, accessible and relatively safe form of exercise for people of all ages. Organisers planned to seek business funding for further events, including Food4Life, which would focus on healthier eating.
