Fresh hope for future of Glasgow's Queen's Park Glasshouse
Glasgow City Council has agreed to keep Queen’s Park Glasshouse open and free to the public while referring its long-term future to the relevant committee. A report is due within six months, and the council will seek operating partners or tenants, identify restoration funding, reinstate the dome, and pursue net-zero improvements. The decision follows a campaign that gathered about 13,000 petition signatures and protested against the proposed closure, which had been linked to the council’s nearly £50 million budget gap. Campaigners and councillors welcomed the move but stressed that public access, ownership, transparent consultation, and meaningful community involvement must be protected.
