British Transport Police are seeking information about a man believed to have knowledge of a sexual assault on an Elizabeth line train. The incident occurred on August 18 after a woman boarded at Tottenham Court Road and the train left Bond Street, travelling towards Maidenhead. Police have released an image of the man and provided contact details for witnesses and anonymous tip-offs.

London’s transport network experienced widespread disruption on August 27, 2026. The Central, Circle, District, Victoria and Piccadilly Underground lines faced delays or suspensions, while the Piccadilly line remained mostly closed between Cockfosters and Uxbridge because of ongoing track and new-train works. The Lioness and Mildmay Overground lines were severely delayed, the Suffragette line was suspended because of an overhead power fault, and the tram network was partly closed. Reported causes included a fire alert at South Kensington, vandalism on Central line trains, a fire alert at Harlesden, train cancellations and infrastructure faults.

Police are seeking public help to identify a man wanted for questioning after a 23-year-old man was allegedly subjected to homophobic abuse and assaulted at Broadway Market near London Fields on 4 July. The victim later received hospital treatment for a facial injury and is being supported by specialist LGBT+ liaison officers. Witnesses or anyone who recognises the pictured man are asked to contact the Metropolitan Police or Crimestoppers.

TK Maxx will open a new 10,000-square-metre store at Unit 6 of the Oaks Shopping Centre on Churchfield Road in Acton, West London, at 10am on August 27, 2026. The store occupies the former Wilko site and will offer discounted designer fashion, high-street clothing and homeware. Opening-day activities will include live music and a Spin to Win game with prizes, gift cards and sweets.

A large section of the Piccadilly line is closed from August 25 to August 28, with no service between Cockfosters and Uxbridge while upgrades are carried out for new trains and railway tracks. TfL is advising passengers to use the Metropolitan and District lines, while replacement bus services PL4, PL5 and PL6 connect affected stations. Tower Hamlets Council has clarified that affordable homes in the approved Truman Brewery redevelopment will be allocated according to housing need and eligibility, not race, ethnicity or nationality. The clarification follows concerns over planning documents describing six social-rented homes as being designed for larger Bangladeshi-heritage families. The council says separate kitchens and living areas are standard good practice for larger family homes and that the developer will have no role in allocations. Although the Secretary of State approved the scheme after a planning appeal, the council and the Save Brick Lane campaign opposed it, arguing that the development delivers insufficient affordable housing. Of 44 homes in Block J, only 11 will be affordable and six will be for social rent, despite more than 28,000 households being on Tower Hamlets' waiting list at the end of 2024.

Hackney Church Brew Co has asked customers to stop forming single-file queues at its bar, arguing that patrons should spread along the available space and attract staff's attention as they traditionally do in pubs. The Nubian Jak Community Trust has created what it believes is the world's largest Blue Plaque, honoring 70 pioneers of Notting Hill Carnival. Symone Williams, whose father played at the first Carnival 60 years ago, is seeking £12,500 to have the plaque professionally installed along the event route by 28 August, allowing it to be considered for Guinness World Records certification. The campaign aims to preserve the event's Black British heritage and honor the people who established Europe's largest street festival.
