Annual Spurs tournament honours teenager's memory
The annual football tournament held in memory of Godwin Lawson, an aspiring 17-year-old footballer stabbed to death in 2010 while protecting friends, brought together about 150 young players for matches and safety workshops. Organised by the Godwin Lawson Foundation and Tottenham Hotspur Community Foundation, the event promotes community, trusted relationships and alternatives to violence. It is part of a wider summer youth-safety programme backed by £1.5m in additional funding from the Violence Reduction Unit, the Premier League and London football charities. Lawson's killer, Moise Avorgah, was convicted of murder in 2011.

Southwark Council leader condemns rises in Bermondsey rents
Residents of Bermondsey’s St James Estate face rent increases of up to £500 a month and Section 21 eviction notices following BMR Group’s acquisition of the properties. Southwark Council leader James McAsh has urged estate manager Freshview to halt eviction proceedings and offer affordable terms, while council official David Watson said the timing of the notices was legally permissible but morally questionable. Residents say the increases could make them homeless and accuse the landlord of converting family homes into houses in multiple occupation. Freshview says rents had been below market value, proposed increases reflect tribunal-confirmed market rates, and renewal agreements have been offered in many cases while disputes continue.
