Newcastle park's new ice cream café offers 'taste of Italy' and visitors are loving it
Ciccarelli Italian Gelato has taken over the café at Paddy Freeman's Park in High Heaton, Newcastle, and has received a strong welcome during its first month. The Northumberland-based family business serves handmade Italian-style gelato and sorbets alongside coffee, drinks and snacks, using organic milk and cream from Bays Leap Dairy Farm. Director Domenico Gregorio said the company plans to introduce more flavours and a larger professional display. The reopening is part of wider efforts to improve Newcastle's parks, supported by a planned £1.4 million investment, while a new operator is still being sought for Leazes Park's café.
North East Santa's Express ticket offer for Christmas 2026 as demand set to soar
Weardale Railway’s Santa Express will return in County Durham from November 28, 2026, after being cancelled the previous Christmas because of locomotive problems. A 10% early-bird discount is available until midnight on August 31, while demand is already reportedly strong. The experience will include festive train journeys from Stanhope Station, Santa visits, gifts, and expanded food and drink options. Standard Golden Tickets cost £33, while VIP tickets start at £43, with limited availability on some dates.
