Dinitha Rathnayake is a Journalist attached to the News Desk of The Morning newspaper. She started her career in 2005 as a Presenter and News Editor at the MGMR Network Private Limited (Max Radio/Television). Then she joined the Lanka Television Network Pvt Ltd (V FM) in 2008 as a Presenter and News Editor. In 2011, she joined Neth FM as an Investigative Journalist and a Deputy Manager - Current Affairs for the Balumgala “The Viewpoint” programme, a show which was rated the number one show by the Lanka Market Research Bureau for several years as the best radio programme in its category, where she became the first female Radio Investigative Journalist in Sri Lanka. She was the best employee of Asset Radio Broadcasting Pvt Ltd, Neth FM in 2015 and the best radio investigative journalist in South Asia in 2016. This was awarded the Inquirer Award by the Thomson Foundation, United Kingdom (UK) which recognizes the work of investigative journalists in Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Palestine, Iraq, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and the Maldives to encourage submissions on investigations on corruption and financial mismanagement. She was one of the five finalists in the MOJOCON competition organized by the Thomson Foundation, UK in 2016 and she went to the UK to study mobile journalism. She has lengthy experience training people about investigative mobile journalism, especially for the broadcast medium. She was also invited as a speaker at the Mojo 2019 Conference held in Ireland in June 2019. She was able to win the South-Asia Laadli Media Award for promoting Gender Sensitivity in 2017. She also worked for Guardian Newspaper, UK. Presently, she is studying for a master’s degree in Sri Lanka. She has done a postgraduate level management course at the European School of Economics in Milan, Italy. Currently, she is working as a Visiting Lecturer at the Sri Lanka College of Journalism.
