Labour plans bring new powers to Brighton and Hove
Labour leader Bella Sankey welcomes the government’s commitments to reform adult social care and transfer substantially more powers from Westminster to regional and local authorities. She argues that years of underfunding and delays have weakened council services and left vulnerable adults without adequate support. Proposed measures for Brighton and Sussex include greater control over investment, transport, affordable housing and skills funding, as well as potential income-tax and business-rate retention and an overnight visitor levy. Sankey says Brighton and Hove Labour will seek to ensure the city benefits from the new arrangements and has a strong voice in their development.
