UK M1, M42, M6 speed camera fault sees over 36,000 speeding fines cancelled
More than 36,000 speeding cases have been cancelled after a technical fault affected 154 variable-speed cameras on 12 UK smart motorways, including the M1, M6, M25 and M42. The cameras sometimes detected drivers after speed limits had changed because of a delay between the cameras and motorway signs. National Highways identified about 2,650 erroneous activations since 2021, while police forces halted enforcement and cancelled ongoing and historic cases. The cameras remain under Home Office testing, an independent review of National Highways' handling of the issue has not yet been published, and the RAC has urged the government to resolve the problem urgently.

Motorway speed camera fines cancelled on smart motorways over glitch
More than 36,000 speeding penalties linked to a fault affecting 154 smart-motorway cameras have been cancelled across the UK. A delay between cameras detecting vehicle speeds and updated speed limits caused some motorists to be penalized after they were legally within the limit, prompting police to stop processing related cases while the Home Office tests a fix. National Highways acknowledged 2,650 erroneous activations since 2021 and said enforcement continues through other measures. Separately, 378 motorists have been convicted this year for ignoring red X lane-closure signs, incurring more than £100,000 in fines, court costs and surcharges, with authorities and the RAC warning that violations put stranded drivers and road workers at risk.

Jet2 confirms 2026 14-day rule is genuine after emails sent
Jet2 has confirmed that emails telling passengers they will receive holiday documents 14 days before departure, rather than 28 days in their original booking confirmation, are genuine. The airline said customers do not need to take any action. The change comes amid concerns over rising jet fuel costs linked to conflict in the Middle East, which have affected airlines including Wizz Air and Ryanair. Jet2 also said forthcoming European rules on clearer fare and baggage information will not change its policy because every booking already includes a free 10kg cabin-bag allowance and a personal item.

Jet2 in 2 key updates for people with flights booked - one to avoid delays
Jet2 says upcoming European Union rules on clearer air fares and baggage allowances will not change its policy because every booking already includes a free 10kg cabin-bag allowance and a personal item. CEO Steve Heapy welcomed the rules and said the existing policy gives customers certainty. Jet2 is also advising passengers to carry a paper copy of their travel insurance documents in case they lose access to their phone abroad. Government guidance warns travellers to check coverage for medical issues, cancellations, delays, luggage loss, destinations and planned activities, and to disclose all medical conditions.
