Martin Lewis urgent 'today' message to Octopus, Ovo, British Gas, E.on, EDF customers
Martin Lewis advises households on standard variable energy tariffs to consider fixing their rates before further increases. Ofgem’s price cap is reported to rise 4% to £1,723 a year for a typical dual-fuel household from October, while a further 9% increase is forecast for January, potentially taking the annual bill to £1,872. Fixed tariffs are currently about 7% below the existing cap, although the decision is complicated by a temporary cut in electricity VAT. Customers already on fixed deals are unaffected until their contracts end.
