Mayor's Traveller Site Targets for Each London Borough Slammed as One Has 73 While Another Has 0
Sadiq Khan’s draft London Plan proposes 876 additional permanent Gypsy and Traveller pitches across London over the next decade, including 24 in Hammersmith and Fulham, 73 in Havering and none in neighbouring Kensington and Chelsea. Conservative councillor Jeremy Maddocks has challenged the proposed Hammersmith and Fulham allocation, requesting evidence of local need, clarification of the borough split and assessments of the impact on scarce land and housing. Hammersmith and Fulham Council disputes the London-wide assessment, while the Mayor’s office says boroughs must plan for identified need and decide locally how to provide the pitches. The plan is under consultation until October, followed by a planned examination and expected adoption in early 2028.
