Olympic stadium turned into shelter for dogs rescued from Greece wildfires
More than 110 dogs rescued from wildfires in Greece’s Attica region are being sheltered at the Megara Olympians Municipal Stadium, where volunteers and veterinarians are providing food, water and medical checks. The fires, driven by dry conditions and strong winds, have destroyed homes and damaged wildlife habitats, while Attica has reportedly lost 42% of its forests to fires over the past decade. Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said some forests could recover naturally, and authorities reported 33 arrests over suspected negligence or arson. Firefighters and aircraft continue efforts to contain the blazes.
