Aaron Strachan was sentenced to lifelong restriction, with a minimum of five years in custody, after abducting and raping a 15-year-old girl in Edinburgh in May 2025. He had also stabbed one man and attacked another with a hammer. Strachan escaped while being taken to a prison van after a January hearing but was recaptured several hours later. The judge said his risk to the public was so high that he might never be released.

The Met Office forecasts heavy rain across 12 UK regions on Monday, warning of surface flooding and travel disruption, particularly in Yorkshire. Northerly winds are expected to bring cloud and rain to northern Scotland and parts of eastern England, while southern Wales and southern England will see brighter conditions and higher temperatures around 25–26C.
