MassDOT and the City of Taunton will hold a virtual public hearing on Sept. 29 about plans to preserve the Plain Street bridge over the Taunton River. Taunton Mayor Shaunna O'Connell welcomed Scott Medeiros on his first day as the new executive director of the Taunton YMCA. Medeiros was recognized for his extensive experience in the YMCA movement, while city officials and Old Colony YMCA leaders expressed optimism about his leadership. O'Connell visited the YMCA and served ice cream to campers during the welcome.

Five-year-old Raven, a domestic shorthair cat surrendered while pregnant, is seeking adoption from the Taunton Animal Care Facility after her surviving kitten found a home. Shelter staff say she would be happiest as the only pet in a quiet household with an experienced cat owner. Prospective adopters must submit an approved application, and appointments are recommended at the Taunton shelter in Taunton, Massachusetts.

Taunton Area Community Table will host a free community dinner on Aug. 27 at 378 Bay St. in Taunton. Doors open at 4:30 p.m., and dinner will be served from 5 to 6 p.m. No payment or advance reservation is required, and Tom & Jimmy's is sponsoring the event.
