Putin’s empty threats to the UK are the last gasp of a dying Russia
British-built drones have been used in Ukrainian strikes on Russian military and energy infrastructure, prompting Moscow to issue familiar threats against the UK. The threats are portrayed as bluster from an increasingly fragile Russia, whose budget deficit is widening, wealthy elites are moving money abroad and economists warn that it is falling behind major economies. Britain is urged not to be deterred, but instead to provide Ukraine with more offensive weapons and air defences, on the grounds that Ukrainian forces are defending wider European security and that a Russian victory would put NATO countries such as the Baltic states and Poland at greater risk.
