How to Watch the Solar Eclipse Safely Across Essex Tonight
A partial solar eclipse will be visible across Essex on August 12, beginning around 6:15 p.m., reaching maximum coverage of roughly 92% shortly after 7:10 p.m., and ending shortly after 8 p.m. Viewers will need a clear west-to-northwest horizon, with open locations such as Abberton Reservoir, Mersea Island, the Dengie Peninsula, Hadleigh Country Park and Two Tree Island suggested as possible viewing spots. Because the eclipse will remain partial in Essex, there will be no safe naked-eye phase; certified ISO 12312-2 eclipse viewers or a pinhole projector should be used, while ordinary sunglasses and unfiltered optical equipment can cause permanent eye damage.
