Chelmsford road schemes approved to support 10,000 new homes
Two major road improvement schemes in Chelmsford have been approved to support the proposed Chelmsford Garden Community, which is planned to include 10,000 homes, business space, schools, open spaces, and community and health facilities. The £38 million Beaulieu Access Package will upgrade Junction 19 of the A12 at Boreham Interchange and the roundabout serving Beaulieu Park Station, following the cancellation of wider A12 expansion plans. Funding will come primarily from Homes England and National Highways, alongside Essex County Council and developer contributions. Construction is underway on the first section of the Chelmsford North East Bypass, while developers must deliver the Northern Radial Distributor Road within two years. Junction 19 capacity improvements are required before 6,250 homes can proceed, and the county council is seeking funding to extend the bypass toward Great Leighs.

Ex-Essex officer who took victim's explicit images barred
A former Essex Police constable, Jack Avis, was found to have taken explicit images of a victim from a seized device during a domestic violence investigation without any legitimate policing reason. A misconduct panel ruled that his actions violated multiple professional standards, would have resulted in dismissal without notice had he remained serving, and caused harm by undermining public confidence. Avis, who resigned before the hearing, will be added to the College of Policing barred list. Reporting restrictions remain in place to protect the victim’s identity.
