Wheelchair user Jenni Pettican says a promised ramp was missing when she needed to reach her husband at the altar during their £16,000 wedding at Newland Hall near Chelmsford. Friends and relatives struggled to position the ramp, leaving her distressed and feeling that the incident tainted the day. She also describes earlier disputes over step-free access and an alleged attempt to charge more for accessibility arrangements. Newland Hall changed ownership after the wedding and says the new owners have apologised for the distress, commissioned an accessibility review and are introducing disability-awareness and customer-service training.
